The Vietnam Civil Aviation Administration on July 8 announced Vietnam airlines can’t inaugurate its direct air route to the US this year as planned.
It is not due to the fault of Vietnam airlines but the Vietnam Civil Aviation Administration. The agency has not completed its project to strengthen its ability in supervising flight safety.
Vietnam Airlines several times has delayed the opening of a direct air route between Vietnam and the US to meet the US’ flight safety requirements. The group planned to inaugurate the route this year.
The route may be opened in the first quarter of 2009.
The US Trade and Development Agency provided $1.4 million for a three-phase project to upgrade Vietnam’s capability of controlling flight safety to meet international standards.
